Even though marijuana abuse is a most threatening problem, only some states are following strict rules to control its possession. Every year US police prosecutes nearly 8,50,000 Americans for violating state marijuana laws. They impose some small penalties and leave them simply. But there are five states which strictly follow the laws and impose severe punishments even for a small pot bust. Let us have a look on the states and the laws.

Oklahoma: The law makers of Oklahoma made a bill which imposes a minimum of two years imprisonment and a maximum of life in prison for the people who cultivate pot. This law will come in to force from 1st November 2011.

Texas: It is the only state which arrests maximum of its citizens for pot possession is Texas. In 2009, more than 97 % of all the marijuana arrests in Texas, consisted of 77,000 people for possession only. Those who are convicted, face up to 180 days in jail and $2000 fine.

Florida: This is the only state which imposes severe punishments even for minor pot possession. Under the states law, the possession of 20 grams of marijuana and even less is considered as a crime and the accused needs to face 1 year imprisonment and $1000 fine, and the cultivation of single marijuana plant is punishable by 5 year imprisonment along with a fine of $5000.

Louisiana: In Louisiana, repeated pot offenders are punished heavily. If a person caught having marijuana possession for the second time he is punishable up to five years of imprisonment, and for the third time it is up to 20 years.

Narcotics Officers Pulled Out 8600+ Marijuana Plants in California

Filed under: Health — Tags: — Winson @ 10:14 AM

Abusing of Marijuana which is also called as marihuana and cannabis, is a growing problem in the present society. Though many laws were made to control the possession of marijuana, they are not that effective to control the use of marijuana. Every day one or the other story comes in news about marijuana which is increasing the severity of the condition.

Very recently Narcotics officers from California, destroyed a large garden of marijuana plants in their first outdoor operation of the year. A total of 13 officers from Nevada County Sheriff’s Office and the US Forest Service found a large marijuana garden near Tahoe National Forest property between Graniteville and the Town of Washington in eastern Nevada County.

Officers were successful in pulling out 8625 plants which were still young as it is early in the growing season. The growers of the garden were not found and hence no arrests were made. The officials also reported that the debris left at the place was consistent with the Mexican drug organization which are also known to use public lands.

Since no suspects were found in the garden when the officers arrived, they were suspecting that the people growing the garden may have been tending another garden in the near by area.

There are few more cases in which these kind of things happened but in smaller proportions. Anyhow whatever may be the size of cultivation a little bit of it is enough to spoil large number of the people.

Know About the Ownership of Mineral Resources in US

The word mineral has a variety of meanings and the list of minerals varies from state to state. In general, ores of metals, coal, oil, natural gas, gemstones, dimension stone and other materials which are extracted from the ground. In most of the countries in the world this mineral wealth belongs to the government irrespective of the ownership of the property. In such countries, the land owner should inform the government if he/she found any minerals under his land. Without such action he/she is not supposed to extract or sell the land containing mineral deposits.

However, in USA and few other countries, any person or organization, who owns the land which was later found to have mineral resources is the owner of all the minerals in his place. The land lord can extract them, give the rights for lease or can sell the rights directly to any person he/she wishes to. In short the land lord owns both surface rights and mineral rights. In other terms this complete free ownership is known as fee simple estate.

The basic ownership of the individual is termed as the fee simple estate. In fee simple estate the owner controls the outer surface, inner surface, and also the air above his property. The ownership offers him the freedom to sell, lease, gift the rights of the property in any of the ways.

The laws on mineral rights vary from one state to another state. Some have different kind of law about the transfer of ones mineral rights to another and also the laws for governing drilling and mining activity. Before leasing or selling the mineral rights one needs to know the laws of his/ her own state by consulting an attorney who have sound knowledge on all these issues.
