In order to use barcode technology for your business, you will require a barcode software, barcode printer and barcode scanner. Barcode label is where the barcode is printed on. Barcodes contain the information of the products which will be read by barcode scanner. Barcode labels are printed using barcode printers.

Barcodes technology is used even in many laboratories today. Because it can reduce the amount of errors which are taken place in a lab and increase its productivity and work efficiency. Labeling in traditional method like handwriting, can take time and cause errors, handwriting can be difficult to read the result in incorrect patient matches.

Barcode labels is an efficient method of data entry as chance of errors is very less. Samples can be read and identified easily. Tracking the samples from time of receiving to disposal is done by a machine readable barcode system. Large amount of information can be fit on the barcode labels. Labs can be equipped with advanced tracking capabilities, will be able to get detailed data about patients. This is possible by using barcode technology in laboratories.

Patients’ data record will be accessed and updated by barcode scanners automatically through lab’s computer information system.

There are different benefits of using barcode system in laboratory:

  • Speed and accuracy can be increased.
  • Costs will be reduced.
  • Management and reporting will be improved.
  • Get clear, legible patient identification labels.
  • Label design and printing can be done quickly.
  • A lot of information about patients can be fit on the labels.

Filed under: Small Business — Tags: — Winson @ 10:36 AM

As per the National Federation of Independent Business’s monthly employment poll, about 10 percent of jobs were added by small businesses last month, which has increased from 5 percent. As per the July report, there was a loss of 0.15 workers per firm for the past 3 months which is down from June’s loss of 0.28. This implies that the private sector employment rate is improving. But, still there is a need for the new jobs to be created.

As per a poll by Reuters who polled economists reported that there was a slight increase in unemployment rate from 9.5 previous month to 9.6 in July. There is an expectation that the private employers would add 90,000 positions. There is a overall payroll decline of 65,000.

About 10 percent of the small businesses firms are planning to decrease employment which has increased by 2 percent from the previous month. Only 9 percent of the small business firms were planning to create new posts which has decreased by 1 point.

As per the poll on NFIB member firms, small businesses are the main source of increase in employment. But, these firms are reluctant to hire because of the uncertainty of pace of recovery and weak sales.

Using Barcodes in Different Steps of Manufacturing Process

Filed under: Business — Tags: — Winson @ 9:53 AM

The ability to carry the complete information about a product makes barcodes very essential in businesses. Identifying many types of ingredients and components is necessary in manufacturing process, the inventory for finished goods and in shipping packages as well.

Multiple advantages of barcodes in supply chain and materials management, and production control made barcodes and barcodes labels usage compulsory. 2D barcodes can store more information in smaller places. This information is read by barcode scanners. It is very useful in security and sensitive industries like aerospace and defense, where traceability of all parts and components is necessary because of security issues. There are different stages of manufacturing, in which barcodes are used, such as:

Barcodes are used on the raw material packages before sending them to manufacturing unit. When they enter the manufacturing location, barcodes make them easy to identify the raw materials. Then materials are moved to inventory location.

They move the materials packages to the inventory location and they link them with the barcode labels of the shelves. Raw material are taken from inventory shelves to the factory floor, then again they are scanned and they update them at production level.

First, parts and their quantities are verified from their barcode labels and brought to the factory to be used in the production as the part of the assembly. Later a new barcode is generated, after taking them to assemble stage. Later new product which is produced newly is identified by that new label.

Later individual products are barcoded. Again they are barcoded after packing the products in a bigger container or carton as they will be sent to different locations, so that they can be tracked at every stage till they reach the shop floor.

Later when they sell the goods, they scan the barcodes of the products in shops by using barcode scanner to know information about product. Symbol barcode scanners can be used for this purpose.
