Small Medium Businesses are Interested to adopt cloud computing services : Study Report

According to a new study conducted by Spice works Inc., around 14 percent of small and medium businesses were reported using cloud computing services, and 10 percent had plans to take up cloud based services during the first half of 2010.

Global survey uncovered the findings of 1,500 IT professionals at small and medium businesses (SMBs) with fewer than 1,000 employees. This survey was made for uncovering cloud computing adoption trends and sentiments among SMBs as per Spice Works.

Highlights of Cloud Computing
Cloud services adoption is more in smaller SMBs than their larger SMB counterparts. 38% of SMBs with less than 20 employees are using or planning to use cloud solutions in the next 6 months which is higher than the 17% of organizations.

According to survey results, cloud services are adopted by technology based companies at a faster rate: 34% of SMBs in the technology sector are using or planning of using cloud services. Services sector companies, such as finance, HR or consulting, are the next fast growing ones with 22 % using or planning to go for cloud solutions.

About 62% of SMBs have no plans on implementation of cloud in the next 1 year because of security concerns and citing technology.

Many People are Using Mobile Internet – comScore

The number of people who use mobile are increased twice in the year of 2009 when we compare to the year 2008, according to comScore report. They are using these mobile devices to access the news and information on the internet.

News and information are accessed by 63.2 million people on their mobile devices in the month of January 2009 and they are accessed by 22.4 million people daily. This number is more than twice of the audience of the last year 2008. According to comScore, 107 percent increase in people using mobiles to access news and internet daily. By this we can say, there is growth in importance of the mobile medium because users are depending on their mobile phones to access information.

Day by day, accessing of the social networking and blogging by users is increasing and there is much growth in downloaded applications as well like because of this growth in news and information usage. The accessing of social networking site and blog increased by 427 percent from 2008 to 2009.

News and information was accessed by 22.3 million people through the downloaded application in the month of the January. 8.2 million users downloaded maps, it is most popular downloaded application among them. SMS was used by 32.4 million people to access the news and information in the month of January.

Most of the users who show the enthusiasm to use mobile news and information are young males with half of 18 to 34 year old males engaged in that activity. Females with the age of 18 to 24 also used this mobile internet. 40 percent of them were accessing it.

In this way mobile devices are used by many people, not only for one purpose for many purposes like access the news and information and maps, etc.

Global Online shopping trends in Purchasing Products

Now-a-days, internet has made online purchasing of products very easy. It has transformed many aspects of life. Through internet, buying tickets, booking concert tickets is much efficient and easier.

According to global online consumers report, clothing and books will continue to top the list for planned online shopping in the next 6 months. It follows the trend reported by Nielsen survey in 2009. As per the report, 46% of global consumers said that they purchased books in the past 3 months and 41% of them bought clothing through online purchasing.

Internet users in 55 markets from Europe, Asia-Pacific, North America, Middle East and south America were polled by Nielsen company who conducted a survey in March 2010. According to that report, vacations are the high priority for planned online shopping. In 2009, 24% of consumers purchased airline tickets online and 17% made tour/hotel reservations online, 7 percentage points and nine percentage points increase respectively in online travel arrangements in 2010.

In the next 6 months the top 5 purchasing products are books, clothing/accessories/shoes, airline ticket, electronic equipment, tours/hotel reservations.

Small Business Confidence is Still Delicate in Second Quarter of the Year 2010: FSB Report

According to the recent survey, the business confidence showed a decline over the second quarter of 2010. The recovery is delicate and much more effort is needed to encourage growth in private sector.

According to the FSB ‘Voice of Small Business Index’, shows only a net four percent of respondents believe that business prospects will improve in the third quarter of the year, down from 16 per cent in March.

As per the survey, around 67 percent of small firms are operating below capacity when compared to those in manufacturing sector which is growing much better than service sector firms

It also highlights that the UK economy is still on way from a full speed recovery. It has 64 percent of firms in the South-East which are likely to be working under below capacity that else where in the country.

Key findings from the quarterly report show:

  • There is decrease in the confidence in the small businesses every month since March. 16 percent of small firms use to believe that there will be an increase in the business prospects which now is down to 4%.
  • Though the ratio of businesses has decreased slightly from 70.5 percent to 66.6 percent, majority of small businesses are still operating below capacity, since the last report.
  • Compared to manufacturing, firms which are operating below capacity are more in service sector. These are more likely to be based in the south-East.
  • There is no expectation of improvement in growth of revenue as it is weak, in the next quarter.

Treatment Statistics of Drug Abuse

Year by year the usage of drugs has been increasing. Regardless of the age considerations, the usage has been improved. Many people are using different types of drugs for recreational purposes. The illicit usage may lead to addiction and in those cases, treatment is needed. The treatment centers are increasing and the number of people who attend the treatment programs are also increasing.

According to National Survey of Drug And Health(NSDUH), during the year 2008, 7.6 million people aged above 12 were treated for illicit drug usage, which is nearly 3.0% of the total population. During the past year, 1.2 million people, i.e., 0.5% of the total population and 16% of the people needed treatment took the treatment under the specialty facility for an illicit drug use problem. Remaining 6.4 million people did not receive the treatment. The statistics for the years 2007 and 2008 were almost same. When compared to the year 2002 the illicit drug usage has been decreased and the decrement is 0.3%.

Out of people who did not receive the treatment some said that they had put efforts for the treatment, but some of them said that they had not put any efforts to get treated.

Now coming to the statistics of youth, aged between 12 and 17, there were altogether 1.2 million people i.e. Around 4.8% people in need of the treatment for the illicit drugs usage in the year 2008. But out of this, only 111,000 received treatment under the specialty facility which is around 9.3% of the youth need treatment aged between 12 and 17. The rest 1.1 million youth did not receive treatment under specialty facility.

The people who did not take the treatment said so many reasons like not ready to stop using, no health coverage and cannot afford the cost of the treatment.
