WAN Optimization Accelerates Application Performance

Filed under: Science and Technology — Tags: , — Winson @ 7:35 AM

Faster application performance ensures that a business effectively renders quality services to its employees and customers. WAN optimization is essential to businesses that are using network applications at its headquarters to stay in touch with branches at remote locations through WAN. WAN optimization enhances the application performance by techniques like bandwidth management, caching, compression, and Protocol optimization and significantly accelerates application performance.

Benefits:
Improves Productivity
Slow speed of application performance really hampers the employee productivity and customer satisfaction. Use of WAN optimization techniques accelerates the applications over the WAN, speeds up the data transfer and reduces the end-user application response time. This in turn makes transactions faster thereby leveraging the employee productivity. WAN optimization reduces the time taken to complete repetitive operations and helps in increasing employee productivity.

The employees waiting for long time to get a transaction done or download a file can not give prompt service to the customers and it results in unsatisfactory customer experience. By eliminating the network problems and reduced throughput, the remote employees can access the network applications that are installed on other locations at a faster rate. Accelerating the applications over the WAN also helps the mobile workers making it easy for them to cater their services to consumers.

Reduces Bandwidth Cost
Using WAN optimization techniques like bandwidth management/QoS, caching, compression, and Protocol optimization can significantly reduce the usage of bandwidth which in turn pulls down the network costs.

  • In Bandwidth Management, limits are set on network applications as to how much bandwidth they can use. This ensures maximum utilization of existing bandwidth by critical applications without providing additional bandwidth, saving considerable amount of money.
In Caching, the copies of important files are stored in multiple locations. The users need not have to download these large files every time thereby reducing the bandwidth utilization.
  • Protocol optimization decreases the transmission delays thereby increasing overall speed of transmission and transaction response.
  • Compression techniques help to reduce size of the data thus saving time of transmission. Compression helps to send data in a faster way thus increasing reducing load on communication links.
  • Compression and caching together help keep the communications link uncongested and reduces queuing delays.

All these factors reduce bandwidth usage which in turn reduces cost. WAN optimization allows users to access WAN applications at speeds similar to a LAN.

WAN optimization accelerates application performance by eliminating issues like redundant file transmissions, chatty protocols, network latency, packet loss etc. WAN optimization ensures consolidation of IT infrastructure of the business at remote locations thereby ensuring higher productivity at remote offices. Using WAN optimization, the businesses can reduce remote office infrastructure cost by effectively centralizing applications, data storage, and server at data centers.

WAN optimization techniques increases transaction speed, improves productivity, and reduces bandwidth cost enabling businesses to be competitive and focus on newer markets. WAN optimization implementation helps businesses to get excellent ROI on their investments by reducing bandwidth costs and improving overall productivity.

The overall SMB IT spending is expected ti increase by an average of 16 percent.

  • As per the belief of 40 percent of SMBs, server virtualization or IT consolidation is the best cost effective technology.
  • There would be 19 percent increase in small and mid sized customers using cloud solutions in some form as per the specialists expectations. Small and medium sized businesses have ranks software as a service among the top 3 technology solutions. It is both cost saving and also helps in business growth.
  • About 74 percent of small business specialist believe that their customers are expected to have more remote workers which is up from 54 percent in 2009.
  • Many of the small business specialists are expecting customer relationships to be dynamic in 2010. Only just about 6 percent of respondents are expecting no change.

Know About How Many SMB’s are Using IT Services : Microsoft Study

website monitoring serviceAs per Microsoft Corp global SMB IT and Hosted IT Index 2010 which studies how small and medium-sized businesses fared during the recession and how they use technology, SMBs are taking up cloud computing.

  • More than 40 percent of the small and medium-sized business respondents who used hosted or cloud technology expressed that they saw rise in revenue by 30 percent. Whereas, 90 percent of respondents who were not using hosted technology saw decrease in revenue.
  • There is an increase in awareness of hosted services, as 65 percent of SMBs are using hosted software to some extent and remaining 73 percent of SMBs have considered it when compared with just 44 percent in the 2008 Index.
  • SMBs are understanding the value of renting IT as a service. About 36 percent of them expressed that a pay-as-you-go model would be appealing.

When we consider the use of e-mail by SMBs, about 67 percent SMBs have on site, 29 percent of them have hosted and just 4 percent SMBs do not have. While coming to file sharing/collaboration, about 56 percent of the SMBs have on site, 23 percent have hosted and 21 percent SMBs do not have. When we see backup, 71 percent SMBs have on site, 22 percent have hosted, 7 percent do not have. While considering website, 49 percent of SMBS have on site, 39 percent have hosted and 12 percent do not have.

Small Medium Businesses are Interested to adopt cloud computing services : Study Report

According to a new study conducted by Spice works Inc., around 14 percent of small and medium businesses were reported using cloud computing services, and 10 percent had plans to take up cloud based services during the first half of 2010.

Global survey uncovered the findings of 1,500 IT professionals at small and medium businesses (SMBs) with fewer than 1,000 employees. This survey was made for uncovering cloud computing adoption trends and sentiments among SMBs as per Spice Works.

Highlights of Cloud Computing
Cloud services adoption is more in smaller SMBs than their larger SMB counterparts. 38% of SMBs with less than 20 employees are using or planning to use cloud solutions in the next 6 months which is higher than the 17% of organizations.

According to survey results, cloud services are adopted by technology based companies at a faster rate: 34% of SMBs in the technology sector are using or planning of using cloud services. Services sector companies, such as finance, HR or consulting, are the next fast growing ones with 22 % using or planning to go for cloud solutions.

About 62% of SMBs have no plans on implementation of cloud in the next 1 year because of security concerns and citing technology.

Impact of Unified Communications on Businesses

Filed under: Science and Technology — Tags: , — Winson @ 6:09 AM

The communication services are necessary for the development of any organization. Different communication services are being evolved to meet the present day’s needs. So, the unified communication is offering different types of real time communication services, which are used by most of the companies. The services which are being offered by the unified communications are instant messaging, presence information, telephony, video conferencing, call control, speech recognition etc.

One can define a Unified Communications (UC) as the grouping of the communication tools into one entity so that they can be used by both the businesses and the individuals. In a single term one can define it as the business process integration application. This is mostly used by the organizations for managing the communications between the clients and the companies. It optimizes the response time, it manages the flow of the data, reduces the dependencies on media and device.

Apart from considering the mediums, one can send a message. For example, if the sender is online during the current time, then the response can be sent via the text chat or a video call.

Instead of using separate device for each and every process an integrated technology will help you in providing the single correct device.

Some of the common services like data services, unified messaging, multimedia series, transactions etc. are being united or integrated. The main aim of implementing the Unified Communications is to decrease the response time delays.

By implementing the Unified communications, the organization will become more productive as the efficiencies like reduction in the cost, better interactivity will occur. So, Unified communications is used for automating and grouping both the manual and the machines communications.
